The 11th Annual San Diego Junior Pheasant Hunt held on March 2nd 2014 on the Tulloch Ranch near Buckman Springs Road in East San Diego County was a big success. Our own San Diego SCI Chapter Secretary Susan Bowers reported that in spite of 4 or 5 days of rain preceding the event, the rains subsided in time to have the event proceed as scheduled. While the original event was planned for 60 youths 15 years and younger who had not previously participated in the program, the response was so great that it was increased to 70 youths by adding an additional event… quail calling.
The youths were asked to comment regarding “What did you learn today?” and each of the several different stations was mentioned several times as their most educational station, thereby indicating that there was something of interest for everyone.
State Assemblyman Brian Jones brought his son Matt to the event and copies of the letters that Assemblyman Jones wrote to San Diego County Supervisor Diane Jacob and landowner Ben Tulloch are included below.
The San Diego Chapter of SCI is proud to join forces with the San Diego County Fish and Wildlife Advisory Commission in sponsoring this important annual youth event that includes pheasant hunting and cleaning, archery, turkey and quail calling and hunting, hunter and shooting safety, as well as conservation.
