Oppose CA Measure To Forbid Guns In Charitable Fundraising |
Safari Club International’s ability to raise funds to support its missions will be stunted if Assembly Bill 3199, sponsored by Assembly Member Chris Holden (D-41), becomes law.
On Tuesday, March 20, the bill was gutted and amended with language taken from legislation pertaining to California Work Opportunity and Responsibility to Kids (CalWORKs) that would prohibit a nonprofit organization fundraising drawing to have a firearm as a prize. The bill has been referred to Assembly Governmental Organization Committee where it awaits a hearing date. This legislation will directly impact many charitable organizations, including Safari Club International and its chapters. If enacted, this legislation would limit fundraising drawings as a source of funds for wildlife management, conservation, education, public service and other worthwhile projects and activities. Firearms that are used as raffle prizes must be transferred through a licensed firearms dealer where the prospective recipient is subject to all California and federal laws, including background checks, proof of a firearms safety certificate or alternative, a safe handling demonstration and a 10-day waiting period. Use SCI’s Action Center to contact elected officials and voice opposition to Assembly Bill 3199. |
