1st ANNUAL BARRETT LAKE VAMP WATERFOWL HUNT JANUARY 31, 2026

1st Annual Barrett Lake VAMP Waterfowl Hunt sponsored by the San Diego Chapter of the Safari Club International, California Waterfowl Association and the San Diego County Wildlife Federation. Two participants will be selected and put on a wait list if someone cancels.

This is a half-day hunt. Hunters need to be back to the dock by 11:30am. There are 18 blinds on the lake and there will be one VAMP hunter per blind. Each hunt party will consist of the VAMP hunter and a Barrett Lake experienced guide / mentor. The guide / mentor will provide local knowledge of Barrett Lake, decoys and will operate the boat. The VAMP hunter is the only one that will be allowed to shoot.  

Out of town participants who don’t want to make the drive on the hunt day can stay in nearby hotels or in a campground / RV park (Skyline Ranch) near the lake. The address closest to the lake entry gate is 19886 Lyons Valley Rd. Jamul, CA 91901

 

To be eligible, the VAMP hunter will need to be responsible for obtaining and bringing:

-          Valid CA hunting license, CA duck validation, Federal duck stamp, HIP validation

-           Must present any of the following verification of eligibility upon demand: Veteran’s ID card and/or Military ID for active duty or state issued drivers license or ID card with Veteran designation.

-          Provide their own shotgun. Ammo will be provided (3” 12 ga and 3” 20 ga). No full chokes.

-          Provide their own day-pack with drinks, snacks, any personal items and folding chairs (dove style).

 

Each VAMP hunter will receive:

-          Avery camo blind bag.

-          2 duck calls with lanyard.

-          2 California Waterfowl Assoc. ball caps, CWA VAMP commemorative coin and coozie.

-          1 year Membership to the California Waterfowl Association.

-          1 year Membership to the Coastal Conservation Association

-          Laminated waterfowl identification field guide.

-          Headlamp with batteries.
